RFK CAMP 2023: Kids Attend
Tuesday-Saturday, June 13-17

18 or older? Interested in volunteering to serve at Royal Family KIDS Colorado Springs Mon-Sat, June 11-17, 2023 (volunteers head up one day before kids)?

PROGRAMS

CAMP
Camp is a weeklong summer camp for foster children, ages 6 to 12. Camp 2023 will be held June 13-17. RFK adult volunteers run our Camp week for 72 kids each summer.

MENTORING CLUB
Mentoring Club is for RFK Little Campers (who attended Camp the summer before) to be mentored one-to-one by RFK staff. Adults are paired one-to-one with kids for mentoring and a mini-Camp experience (Club) once a month.

VOLUNTEER
Each year, we take applications for 80+ adults (18 and older) to serve at Camp. Every full-week volunteer needs to pass high-level background checks and attend 12 hours of training.
OUR WORK
A collection of memories from Camp

RFK COLORADO SPRINGS DIRECTOR
MELISSA TENPAS has been a part of the Royal Family KIDS Leadership team since going to Directors' Training in 2011. She, along with three teammates, started Royal Family KIDS Colorado Springs Camp in the summer of 2012. In 2014, RFK Mentoring Club was added to our programs, allowing us to pair Little Campers to be mentored by adults who volunteered for the week of Camp. She has also worked with the National Office (now For The Children) to write + design the curriculum for Camp.
LEADERSHIP
TEAM
YOUR RFK LEADERSHIP TEAM consists of Assistant Director Larry (Grandpa Larry at Camp), Lonna (Dean of Women), Shelby (Child Placement Coordinator + Mentoring Club Director), and Matt (Fundraising/Banquet). This leadership team meets all year long to plan Camp, recruit volunteers, conduct a two-day training, raise funds to send 72 El Paso County foster children and 90+ adults to Camp...and one million other unseen things to bring Royal Family KIDS to life.
MENTORING CLUB DIRECTOR
SHELBY MURPHY has been a part of the Royal Family KIDS Leadership team since serving at Camp in 2019. She is the Child Placement Coordinator for Camp and recently took over leadership of the Mentoring Club Team. Kids who attend Camp as Little Campers are eligible to apply for Mentoring Club each schoolyear following the weeklong Royal Family KIDS Camp.
THE RFK VOLUNTEER CREW
THE ROYAL FAMILY KIDS COLORADO SPRINGS TEAM consists of volunteers whose desire it is to see foster children - kids who have experience childhood trauma at the hands of their family - experience safe, healthy adults in a positive environment.
